HONG KONG -- Hong Kong billionaire Richard Li's video streaming platform Viu is banking on "content-hungry" viewers outside Southeast Asia's major cities as it looks to take on Netflix and Disney+.

The platform, launched in 2015, operates in 16 markets with revenue last year hitting $206 million. Its monthly active users in Southeast Asia have already topped those of U.S. streaming rival Netflix, according to consulting firm Media Partners Asia.
