TOKYO -- Singer and actor Tomohisa Yamashita has been a fixture on stage and screen in Japan for more than a quarter century, breaking into show business at just 11 years old in 1996. Now he's looking to break new ground.

"My next drama will have just one scene that requires working out, but I know how important such a scene is to the entire story. To be honest, I want to run away, but I have no choice but to do it as I came all the way here," Yamashita, now 36, said in an online interview with Nikkei in December.
