TOKYO -- Japan's anime, film and manga industries are enjoying a moment in the spotlight following Oscar wins for Hayao Miyazaki's "The Boy and the Heron" and Takashi Yamazaki's "Godzilla Minus One," and a global outpouring of respect following the death of "Dragon Ball" creator Akira Toriyama.

However, with some of Japan's most well-known soft power industries resting on the shoulders of a small number of gifted artists and creators, the foundation of that success may be under stress.
