TOKYO -- Nintendo will launch Switch 2 on June 5, the Japanese game console maker said Wednesday, seeking to replicate its success with the current model.

The company released the date on video-streaming channel Nintendo Direct late at night in Japan. More than 2.4 million people watched the announcement through Nintendo's official Japanese YouTube channel.
