TOKYO/OSAKA -- Capcom will soon launch its first major new Street Fighter sequel in seven years, hoping to set off a cultural sonic boom the way that Street Fighter II did in the 1990s.

This is part of a trend of revivals involving hit intellectual property from the past. Producers like to be assured a certain level of results, while consumers can avoid letdowns from trying something new.
