LOS ANGELES -- "Shogun" reigned over the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards with its portrayal of feudal Japan, driven by a cast and crew dedicated to historical accuracy and a growing appetite in the U.S. for stories featuring diverse perspectives.
The historical epic had won a record 18 awards by the end of Sunday's ceremony, including best drama series, best lead actor in a drama series for Hiroyuki Sanada and best actress for Anna Sawai. Sanada and Sawai are the first Japanese stars to win a lead acting Emmy.
