SAKAI, Japan -- The Japanese city of Sakai, Osaka Prefecture, was for centuries the center of production of katana samurai swords, which are made only by licensed swordsmiths. This summer, three swordsmiths based in the city created a full-size replica of the sword that appears in Capcom's blockbuster video game "Monster Hunter."

The steel blade's decorations that reflect Monster Hunter's worldview will be displayed at the special exhibition "Monster Hunter×Sakai: A close look at ancient techniques" at Sakai Plaza of Rikyu and Akiko in Sakai City from July 9 to Sept. 4.
