GUANGZHOU -- From backing teams to subsidizing new venues, China's public and private sectors are ramping up efforts to promote esports ahead of its medal sport debut in the upcoming Asian Games.

Members of China's national esports teams were met with thunderous applause when they made a surprise appearance at the Global Esports Summit, which was held Shenzhen this month.
