Mitsubishi Motors seeks new road to reform with Nissan's help

TOKYO -- Mitsubishi Motors sees a planned capital-tie up with Nissan Motor as an opportunity to revive a brand battered by scandal, breaking from a past pattern of relying on support from within the Mitsubishi group that did nothing to change the corporate culture.

The mileage data fraud marks the Japanese automaker's third management crisis. The others came in the 2000s, when the company was twice found to have concealed defects.
