TOKYO -- Nissan Motor President and CEO Makoto Uchida told Nikkei that the Japanese automaker "needs to think about the merits" of alliance partner Renault's planned electric vehicle company before taking part in the venture.

Renault has announced it would spin off its EV operations into a separate company. The French automaker plans to list the new entity as soon as next year.
