TOKYO -- Japanese food company Nisshin OilliO Group will soon step up exports of high-performance oil products, beginning shipments to Taiwan next month.
An oil powder product and oil made from 100% plant-derived medium-chain triglycerides, or MCTs, will be offered. Mixed into food or beverages, they serve as a concentrated source of calories helpful to seniors who do not eat very much, the company says.
They already enjoy double-digit sales growth in South Korea amid the graying of society. Nisshin OilliO foresees strong demand in rapidly aging Taiwan as well. The items are also available in India.
The products are now made at a partner factory in Japan. Anticipating demand growth, Nisshin OilliO has built a dedicated MCT facility with an annual capacity of 6,000 tons on the premises of a Spanish subsidiary that produces oils for cosmetics.
The company will also consider exports to Southeast Asia down the road, planning to sell the oil products with halal certification to show that they are permissible under Islamic law.
