MANILA -- Philippine Long Distance Telephone on Wednesday said it had acquired around 4% of California-based MATRIXX Software for $5 million.

The deal is the latest investment of PLDT, which has embarked on an acquisition spree to boost its digital businesses as it moves beyond traditional telephony services, where growth has slowed dramatically.
