Like its telephone booths, PLDT's old name, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company, dated from a bygone era.

MANILA -- In a move to update its image, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company is rebranding itself as PLDT, Inc. because its cumbersome old name "reflects the traditional fixed line telecommunications business that it engaged in for several years following its incorporation in 1928".

PLDT said its business has come a long away since then, and its revenues now derive from an expanded business portfolio that includes wireless telecommunications, data, broadband, information technology, and related value- added services.
