TOKYO -- Sales of some Kobayashi Pharmaceutical products have plummeted 30% to 40% year-on-year after five deaths and other health problems were linked to the company's red yeast rice supplements, Nikkei has learned.

Sales figures for about 350 drugstores were compiled using Nikkei POS, which collects sales data from retailers nationwide. Average daily sales from March 22, when the problem was first announced, to March 31 were compared with the results from March 2023.
