TOKYO -- An eyedrop drug that researchers in Japan believe could stop myopia from becoming worse is set to enter clinical trials in a potential boon for the billions of sufferers worldwide.

Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a progressive condition that occurs when the length of the eye from front to back increases. Looking at something up close for a long time can stretch the eyes, making it difficult for the image to be focused properly on the retina.
