Pigeon's booming baby business driven by surging sales in China

Customers, investors lured by aggressive e-commerce strategy and Alibaba tie-up

Pigeon's online sales in China are said to be driving the company's record profits.

TOKYO -- Pigeon has been churning out record profits thanks to soaring e-commerce sales in the huge Chinese market.

The Japanese baby goods maker announced on Dec. 4 that group net profit for the nine months through October surged 22% from the same period last year, hitting a record 10.4 billion yen ($92.6 million). The company is likely to see net profit for the full year through January rise more than its 17% forecast.
