Renesas to supply chips, software for connected devices

Renesas Electronics will offer chip-and-software packages that could reduce development times and costs by up to half.

TOKYO -- Renesas Electronics will provide both the microchips and the software needed to let devices communicate with one another, helping companies with ideas for connected products develop them faster and more cheaply.

The Renesas Synergy Platform forms part of the Japanese chipmaker's effort to add another dimension to its business beyond hardware. Its Silicon Valley subsidiary will lead this year's global rollout of the new concept.
