WASHINGTON/NEW YORK -- The U.S. will take steps to limit the scope of a "loophole" from tariffs levied on goods coming into the country, the White House announced Friday, in a move that targets hugely popular Chinese e-commerce platforms such as Shein and Temu.
The Biden administration will soon propose rules to modify the loophole known as the de minimis exemption. Specifically, the rules will seek to exclude items subject to tariffs imposed on China under Section 301 of the 1974 Trade Act.
