Costco Japan teams with Kao on shipping crates that double as displays

Store chain and household goods maker fight labor shortage, reduce waste

TOKYO -- Costco Wholesale Japan and household products maker Kao have started using crates that serve as both shipping containers and product display shelves, combating Japan's labor shortage while cutting their environmental impact.

The crates, developed by Kao, are now used for three products sold at Costco including Attack laundry detergent.
