TOKYO -- From department stores to hotels, businesses across Japan are scrambling to capture a surge in luxury spending driven by summer bonuses and a rebound in tourism.

Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings registered an 11% jump in revenue on the year at group department stores over the weekend after kicking off a sale at the end of June. The flagship Isetan store in Tokyo's Shinjuku area logged a double-digit boost in traffic.
