Japan's Miki House goes upscale with $1,600 children's coat

Popular clothier enters luxury market with eye on wealthy overseas parents

HIGASHIOSAKA, Japan -- With the number of children dwindling in Japan, the Miki House kidswear brand is accelerating its global push with a new luxury line geared toward affluent consumers abroad.

Miki House Gold Label will launch this August. More than 20 items, from coveralls for babies and shoes for toddlers to denim jackets, will be released by February for sale at select Miki House outlets.
