TOKYO -- Lawson, one of the three major convenience store chains in Japan, will launch a futuristic store in Tokyo next spring that will be equipped with automated display robots and a mobile device-based checkout system.
The "Real x Tech" project will utilize digital technology backed by the telecommunications company KDDI, which increased its equity stake in Lawson from 2.1% to 50% for 497 billion yen ($3.5 billion) earlier this year.
