MANILA -- Philippine retailer SM Group is accelerating Alfamart convenience store openings, with plans to add 200 stores in Luzon this year alone, aiming to challenge local leader 7-Eleven.

SM, the country's largest conglomerate, is increasing collaborations with food chains, laundromats and other industries in a bid to dominate the convenience store market.
