SINGAPORE -- A shopping mall in Singapore occupied exclusively by local brands is helping residents connect the popular hobby of shopping with the growing support for local culture of the wealthy city-state.

New Bahru -- "bahru" means "new" in Malay -- opened in the upscale River Valley district in May 2024. There are 44 tenants, including restaurants and bars, boutiques owned by local designers, home goods stores, fitness gyms and spas, attracting upper-middle to high-income earners.
