TOKYO -- Upscale Japanese department store operator Takashimaya is developing a strategy to attract high-spending shoppers from abroad to stores in Japan with perks and services, aiming to establish a stable revenue base by turning them into regular customers.
The company is issuing VIP cards to big spenders overseas, starting with about 1,500 Takashimaya credit card holders in Singapore who make the most annual purchases. The program will then be expanded to Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City.
