TOKYO -- Japanese composer and musician Ryuichi Sakamoto has been awarded the DG First Penguin Award, which recognizes people who meet creative challenges on the global stage. This year's award was presented to Sakamoto in recognition of his activities using social media and other online platforms, as well as other efforts that foster younger people in his field.

Following the award ceremony on Aug. 29, Sakamoto, along with Joichi Ito, director of Digital Garage (DG), which hosted the award ceremony, sat down for an interview with The Nikkei.
