Radical research topples traditional views of stem cells

OSAKA -- The discovery that ordinary cells from mice can be turned into stem cells simply by exposing them to stress explodes established theory and could revolutionize regenerative medicine if applied to human cells.

     This week's issue of the journal Nature features papers written by Riken biologist Haruko Obokata and others on the stimulus-triggered acquisition of pluripotent, or STAP, cells.
