Shanghai mall lures visitors with Ferris wheel, workshops

The opening of a Disneyland theme park in Shanghai last month has lent a festive touch to the city's atmosphere. Along with Disney Town, an adjacent shopping area, the attraction is expected to help boost consumer spending in China. The amusement park's dedication follows the opening in February of a huge Ferris wheel in a residential district about 1km north of the People's Square, in the center of the city. The wheel, called Sky Ring, is located on the roof of the Joy City shopping mall.

The first Ferris wheel that accompanies a shopping mall in China, the Sky Ring boasts a diameter of 56 meters and a maximum height of 106 meters above the ground. It has 30 gondolas and completes a rotation in about 12 minutes. Each gondola is equipped with an air conditioner and a USB connection for charging smartphones.
