Shareholders wary of NTT Data's $3bn bet on Dell

NTT Data is set to boost its system operations for the health care industry through a big acquisition.

TOKYO -- Investors in NTT Data are skeptical about the company's $3 billion deal to buy information technology services operations from Dell. With little information revealed about the contract, shareholders worry it might end up being yet another botched foreign acquisition.

"I'm concerned that mergers and acquisitions might hamper shareholders' interest," a participant said at NTT Data's annual shareholders meeting in Tokyo on June 22. The Japanese company logged a record profit in the fiscal year ended in March, but investors are wary of the big bet, which the company says will boost its overseas operations.
