Shiseido adding first Japan factory in almost 4 decades

Asians and tourists to Japan give iconic cosmetics maker record sales

Shiseido, a pricey cosmetics maker, is adding capacity to keep up with record demand from Asians and tourists to Japan.

TOKYO --Shiseido on Thursday announced plans to build its first new domestic factory in 36 years.

The cosmetics and skin care maker will erect the factory in Tochigi Prefecture, north of Tokyo. The Japanese company needs more capacity to feed demand elsewhere in Asia as well as that of foreign tourists to Japan.
