Sony's FeliCa to get contactless credit card function

Sony intends for its FeliCa cards to offer electronic money, swipe credit card and contactless credit card functions.

TOKYO -- Sony looks to enhance its FeliCa contactless chip technology with a credit card settlement feature that does not require entering a pass code.

Contactless chips require an antenna to communicate with the reader terminal. But housing multiple antennas in a single card is difficult due to problems with crosstalk. Sony has developed a new chip that can operate with one antenna even when adding the contactless credit card function.
