Sprint now takes a back seat to T-Mobile

NEW YORK -- SoftBank Group unit Sprint's subscriber count has fallen behind that of T-Mobile US, the very company SoftBank had tried to buy out.

     Sprint had a total of 57.66 million subscribers at the end of June, including prepaid, the company reported Tuesday. It fell to fourth place. With its 58.9 million subscribers, T-Mobile took over the No. 3 spot Sprint had held for roughly a decade.
