NEW DELHI -- Travelling on a budget in India, it is all too common to enter your hotel room to find dirty sheets on the bed and worse in the bathroom. But a new crop of startups led by OYO Rooms is finding better ways to match travelers with decent, affordable rooms.

OYO started in 2013 as an online marketplace for hotel rooms priced from 999 rupees ($15.10) a night but it was not just an Indian replica of overseas booking sites like Hotels.com. Instead, founder Ritesh Agarwal set out to tackle problems with quality by using technology to ensure standards of presentation and cleanliness were met, promising travelers wireless Internet, air-conditioning and clean sheets.
