SHENZHEN -- At a cold chain storage facility in Yantian, home to one of the main ports serving the southern city of Shenzhen, an autonomous forklift enters a room where the temperature is minus 30 C. The machine raises boxes of frozen shrimp from Ecuador onto shelves that stand about 2 meters tall, alongside frozen pork from the U.S. and chicken legs from Brazil.
This is more difficult than it might look. "There were many challenges in the development process because the environment inside a frozen warehouse is harsh," said Chen Bowen, chief digital officer of Yueshi Robot, the Shenzhen startup that built the forklift. "There is a lot of fog and moisture that interferes with the accuracy of the sensors."
