JAKARTA -- Startups in Indonesia are offering points and other rewards in exchange for recyclables as they look to turn the country's growing waste problem into business opportunities.

Jakarta-based startup Rekosistem began testing an automated collection box for plastic bottles at a busy metro station in the Indonesian capital last year.
