Philippine home services company GoodWork raises $1.6m

Home repair to pedicure platform to expand in Southeast Asia

A shopping mall in Metro Manila has reopened after two months as the government eases its coronavirus lockdown: GoodWork offers home services from air conditioner cleaning to pedicures.

HANOI -- Philippine home services e-commerce platform GoodWork has raised $1.6 million in seed funding, led by California-based venture capital fund Chaac Ventures, according to an announcement.

The round also saw participation from investors Elysium Venture Capital and Kairos K50, and angel investors from Facebook and Snapchat.

GoodWork was founded in October 2018 by Andrew Koger, who previously ran Lazada's fulfillment operations in the Philippines. The company plans to use the cash to expand its business across Southeast Asia. It offers an array of home services ranging from cleaning, laundry delivery, air conditioner cleaning and home repairs, to health and beauty services such as manicures and pedicures.

The company says it handled more than 10,000 jobs a month in its first year, with more than 70% of daily bookings coming from repeat customers.

"We are excited to lead GoodWork's seed round and we are looking forward to providing all of Southeast Asia with services that will improve people's day-to-day lives," said Luke Armour, Chaac Ventures founder and CEO.

Chaac Ventures is a seed venture capital fund focused primarily on technology businesses founded by Princeton University alumni. Its investments are modest, ranging in size from $100,000 to $1 million.
