Stretched thin, Yamato Transport to cut overtime 10%

Logistics giant to decrease workload by seeking higher shipping rates

Yamato Transport will hire more drivers to ease the workload.

TOKYO -- Japanese logistics giant Yamato Transport decided Wednesday to reduce overtime by 10% next fiscal year, aiming to ease the burden on staff overworked by escalating package volume.

The Yamato Holdings unit launched its revolutionary door-to-door parcel delivery service about four decades ago. This was followed by other solutions such as offering delivery time slots, transporting sporting goods, and providing refrigerated delivery of perishable foods. These innovations drove the growth of the entire domestic home delivery industry.
