Sumitomo Electric's new storage battery is big where it counts

Sumitomo Electric's new redox flow battery system saves space and costs less to install.

OSAKA -- Sumitomo Electric Industries plans to release worldwide this autumn a large-scale storage battery system boasting higher capacity in a smaller, cheaper package than its current offering.

The new redox flow battery system takes up just half as much space. An all-in-one design for main components, such as liquid tanks and a pump, enables all necessary devices and parts to fit in a conventional cargo container. This makes the system easier to transport by cargo ship or truck and to set up once delivered. The new product more than halves the time and cost of installation from the current model, which must be assembled at the destination.
