Taiwanese tech companies see sales drop of 7% in first half

TAIPEI -- Taiwan's major tech companies, a gauge of global electronic market conditions, generated significantly less revenue in the first half of 2016 than the year-ago period, with June registering the eighth consecutive monthly year-over-year sales drop.

For the first half of 2016, 14 out of 19 major tech companies on the Nikkei Asian Review's Asia 300 list posted a year-on-year decline in revenue amid weak global demand for smartphones.
