Ajinomoto to invest $165m to boost production of chip materials

Japan biotech company utilized amino acid know-how to create film for GPUs, CPUs

TOKYO -- Ajinomoto will invest at least 25 billion yen ($166 million) by 2030 to increase production capacity for a semiconductor material by 50%, aiming to cultivate areas outside its core food business to solidify its revenue base.

The Japanese food and biotech company will increase production capacity for Ajinomoto Build-up Film (ABF), an insulating material used in the latest graphics processing units for data centers as well as central processing units of computers and other devices.
