TOKYO -- When chipmaking equipment maker Tokyo Electron releases its annual earnings Thursday, the focus will be on whether the company will walk back on a market recovery it predicted to take shape in the latter half of this year.

"Starting in the second half, memory equipment will begin to recover," President and CEO Toshiki Kawai said at the earnings announcement in February, suggesting a silver lining in the wafer fab equipment market.
