Clock ticks as GlobalWafers awaits German acquisition approval

HAMBURG, Germany -- Taiwan's GlobalWafers -- the world's third-largest maker of semiconductor wafers -- is still waiting for Germany to greenlight its acquisition of German peer Siltronic just days before the offer is set to expire.

GlobaWafers has offered to pay 4.35 billion euros ($4.93 billion) for Siltronic in a bid to expand its market share and challenge leading Japanese players.
