HSINCHU, Taiwan -- For six years, C.C. Wei has quietly steered Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. through a period of unprecedented growth and challenges. Now, he is set to take on an even more prominent role as chairman of the world's biggest chipmaker.

Wei, who has served as CEO since 2018, will also become chairman from Tuesday, when the person currently in that post, Mark Liu, is set to retire. The move is part of a significant management reshuffle that also includes preparing a successor to Wei as chief executive.
