PUNE, India -- Tata Electronics said Monday it will partner with Japanese chipmaking equipment maker Tokyo Electron in training and other areas as part of a move into semiconductors.

Tata Group is one of the biggest conglomerates in India, with leading companies in information technology services, autos and other industries. At the end of February, the Indian government announced its approval of the group's plan to build the nation's first homegrown semiconductor fabrication plant.
