FUKUOKA, Japan -- Nearly three years after Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. announced that it would build a plant in Kyushu, suppliers based on the Japanese island are ramping up efforts to court clients in the world-leading Taiwanese chip sector.

Kyushu-based manufacturers promoted their wares at the three-day Semicon Taiwan industry expo in Taipei earlier this month. Keiji Mieno, representative director of Works in Fukuoka prefecture, drew an enthusiastic response for his company's new carbide mold for mass-producing lenses used in photolithography equipment.
