TOKYO -- A lawmaker in Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party said the government is considering an "extremely exceptional" bill to guarantee loans for the government-backed chip startup Rapidus to help it attract private investors and reduce its dependence on taxpayer money.

"Normally the Japanese government doesn't guarantee loans for specific companies," Yoshihiro Seki told Nikkei Asia in an interview. "This is extremely exceptional."
