TAIPEI -- Taiwan's top mobile chip developer, MediaTek, said it will use Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.'s most cutting-edge technology to make its premium chips for smartphones and other devices to be released next year.

MediaTek joins Apple as an early adopter of TSMC's 3-nanometer tech, according to an announcement on Thursday, a rare joint statement by a chip developer and chip manufacturer.
