SEOUL -- SK Hynix's operating profit hit a record high in the second quarter amid signs big U.S. tech companies are pulling forward orders for artificial intelligence memory chips to get ahead of President Donald Trump's expected tariffs on semiconductors.

The South Korean chipmaker said on Thursday that operating profit jumped 68.5% from the same quarter last year to 9.2 trillion won ($6.7 billion). For the three months through June revenue rose 35.4% on year to 22.2 trillion won, also an all-time high.
