SEOUL -- Samsung Electronics said on Wednesday that it expects its memory chip business will record a profit in the current first quarter, recovering from a long slump in the industry that has sapped earnings at the South Korean technology company.

"We plan to focus on improving profitability, actively coping with demand for high bandwidth memory related to generative artificial intelligence and server solid state drives," Jaejune Kim, a Samsung vice president in charge of the memory division, said during a conference call after the release of fourth quarter earnings. "Therefore, our company's memory business is expected to turn to profit in the first quarter."
