Company struggles to supply Nvidia with HBM while SK Hynix powers ahead

BANGKOK -- Samsung Electronics logged a 40% drop in operating profit in its semiconductor division in the third quarter compared to the previous three months, performing more poorly than local rival SK Hynix on the chip front.

Samsung said on Thursday that its device solutions division, which covers memory, foundry and system large-scale integration (LSI) chips, posted a 3.9 trillion won ($2.8 billion) operating profit for the three months through September, down 40.2% from the previous quarter.
